TROUBLESHOOTING
The Honda Smart Card Key indicator comes on for approx. two seconds then it goes off, when the igni-
tion switch is turned ON with the properly registered card key and the Honda Smart Card Key System
functions normally. If there is any problem or the not properly registered card key is used, the indicator
will remain on.
The ignition switch can be turned ON but Honda Smart Card Key indicator does not come on
1. Fuse Inspection
Check for blown METER fuse (5 A).
Is the fuse blown?
YES – Replace the fuse.
NO – GO TO STEP 2.
2. Combination Meter Inspection
Turn the ignition switch ON and check that all gauge needles move to full scale and then return to
zero.
Does the needles move to full scale and then return to zero?
YES – GO TO STEP 4.
NO – GO TO STEP 3.
3. Combination Meter Back Up Voltage line Inspection
Turn the ignition switch ON then measure the voltage at the combination meter connector.
Is there battery voltage?
YES – Faulty combination meter
NO – Open or short circuit in Light green/yellow wire
4. Honda Smart Card Key Indicator Output Voltage Line Inspection at combination meter
Turn the ignition switch OFF and short the combination meter 28P (Gray) connector terminal with
connectors connected and ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES – GO TO STEP 5.
NO – Faulty combination meter
5. Honda Smart Card Key Indicator Input Voltage Line Inspection at handle lock module
Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the handle lock module 21P (Black) connector (page 23-
26).
Turn the ignition switch ON and wait 2 seconds, measure the voltage between the handle lock mod-
ule 21P connector and ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES – Faulty handle lock module
NO – Open circuit in Yellow/white wire
CONNECTION: Light green/yellow (+) – Green/black (–)
CONNECTION: Yellow/white (+) – Ground (–)
