Installation:
When disconnecting the battery cable, be sure to disconnect at the
battery negative (
) terminal first. To connect, connect at the positive
(
) terminal first, then at the negative (
) terminal. Never dis/
connect the battery cable in the reverse order, or it causes a short
circuit when a tool contacts the terminals.
Charging:
The battery gives off explosive gasses; keep sparks, flames and
cigarettes away from the battery while charging. Provide adequate
ventilation when charging.
The battery contains sulfuric acid (electrolyte). Contact with skin or
eyes may cause severe burns. Wear protective clothing and a face
shield.
If electrolyte gets on your skin, flush with water.
If electrolyte gets in your eyes, flush with water for at least 15
minutes and call a physician immediately.
Electrolyte is poisonous.
If swallowed, drink large quantities of water or milk and follow
with milk of magnecia or vegetable oil and call a physician.
Install the battery holder band.
Connect the battery positive (
) cable to the battery positive (
)
terminal, then the battery negative (
) cable to the battery negative
(
) terminal. Tighten the bolts and nuts securely.
Make sure that the engine switch is turned OFF.
Remove the battery from the battery tray.
Install the maintenance cover, and install the cover screw.
Never operate the generator without the maintenance cover in place,
as poor engine and generator performance will result.
The battery is rated at 8Ah (ampere-hours). Charging current should
equal 10% of the battery’s ampere-hour rating. A battery charger
should be used that can be adjusted to deliver 0.8 amps.
Connect the battery charger following the manufacturers
instructions.
Charge the battery 3
4 hours.
Clean the outside of the battery and the battery tray compartment
with a solution of baking soda and water.
