6-2. Inherent Drawbacks of the Cordless Planer Requiring Particular Attention During Sales Promotion

(1) Working performance per single charge for the first time:

The working performance per single charge for the first time may be low because the load current value is

high owing to the new and still inflexible components of the planer such as the belt.  Two or three cycles of

planing and recharging the battery are required until the Model P 20DA can provide the specified performance.

Until then, adjust the cutting depth to about 0.3 mm (1/128") and perform cutting slowly while avoiding heavy-

duty cutting.

(2) Variations in working performance per single charge:

Capacity of the battery varies by  10% depending on the ambient temperature and the cycles of charging/

discharging, and also the working conditions such as ambient temperature of the planer, type and moisture

content of the wood, sharpness of the blade and the working method.  Therefore, the working performance

data per single charge should be regarded as reference values.

(3) Avoid cutting of 0.5 mm (1/64") or more depth:

Avoid cutting of 0.5 mm (1/64") or more depth even though the cutting depth adjustment knob can be turned to

the position of 0.5 mm (1/64") or more.  Otherwise, the planer becomes overloaded, which can cause burning

of the motor and damage of the battery.

(4) Safety switch lock mechanism

The Model P 20DA has a safety switch lock mechanism on the side of the handle.  Although the position and

the shape of the safety switch lock lever are ergonomically designed for safe and easy handling in lock/off-

lock, users who are accustomed to AC-powered planers may be conscious of a little inconvenience.  However,

be sure to instruct the users not to interfere with the safety switch lock lever operation by means of a piece of

wood.  Refer to "Switch Operation" on the page 7 of the Handling Instructions for handling the safety switch

lock lever.
