The RF Source divider configuration involves placing JP1 and JP2 in position 2-3 and
plugging RF source 1 output and RF source 2 output into J3A and J4A respectively. K3
now becomes the RF Source Select RF switch and is controlled by the Relay_Select
signal at J7-19. K3’s output is split by the 3dB hybrid into two equal amplitude outputs
90 degrees apart. These 2 outputs are sent to the 2 IPA Backplane Boards to drive the
active IPAs. Also, JP3 will be installed making R6 the reject load for the hybrid. For the
Exciter Divider configuration the rest of the board is not used or populated with parts.
This is considered the 002 assembly when reading the notes on the schematic. This
board is physically located in the rear of the transmitter on the upper left hand wall
(when looking from the rear).
4.4.2
IPA
The IPA amplifiers and/or modules are identical to any one of the PA modules. This
allows a PA module to be used in place of a failed IPA. The standard IPA configuration
includes 2 dual IPA modules, each used in a main/alternate configuration (in other
words only 1/2 of each module is used at a time). The IPAs are labeled:
•
IPA_AB1
•
IPA_AB2
•
IPA_CD1
•
IPA_CD2
IPA_AB1 and AB2 are the 2 amplifiers on the lower IPA Module, with IPA_CD1 and
CD2 on the upper module. Only 1 of the 2 amplifiers on each IPA module will be active
at a time. The active pairs are:
•
IPA_AB1 and IPA_CD2
•
IPA_AB2 and IPA_CD1
If one of the IPA amplifiers fails, such as IPA_AB1, the controller will automatically
switch to the second IPA pair with a minimal interruption of service. In other words, not
only would it switch from IPA_AB1 to IPA_AB2, it would also switch to IPA_CD1 at
the same time even though there is nothing wrong with IPA_CD2. It is not possible to
switch the IPA_AB amplifier without also switching the IPA_CD amplifier. This pair
switching allows for very simple yet effective system phasing, with only one
adjustment for each pair. The phasing adjustments are located on the IPA Backplane
Boards, but should not normally require adjustment even if the IPA is replaced.
