Service & Maintenance

A.  Shut-down Procedure

The best way to shut down the appliance is to simply

let it run out of fuel, and shut down naturally as the

temperature cools. This method is highly recommended

for the end of season shut-down.

To  shut-down  otherwise,  turn  the  mode  selector  to

"OFF' verify by ensuring that the Status light goes out.

The shut-down protocol of the circuit board will safely

allow the fire to go out.

Soot  Formation  and  Need  For  Removal-

When  coal  is  burned,  the  products  of  combustion

combine with moisture to form a soot residue which

accumulates on the flue lining. When ignited, this soot

makes an extremely hot fire. The chimney and chimney

connector should be inspected at least once every two

months  during  the  heating  season  to  determine  if  a

soot buildup has occurred. If soot has accumulated,

it should be removed to reduce the risk of a chimney

fire.

If you experiance a chimney fire;

 Remove all burning

fuel  from  the  grate  by  scraping  it  into  the  ash  pan.

Move the ash pan safely outside the home and place

it  on  the  ground,  well  away  from  any  combustibles.

Turn the control to "Off" and notify the fire department.

Do  not  operate  the  appliance  until  the  chimney  and

connector  have  been  inspected  and  approved  by  a

chimney professional.
