The Invoke contains microphones that are active at all times, but only to listen for the wake-
words, “Hey Cortana.” Unless you’ve said those words and are interacting with Cortana, no
conversations or ambient sounds are monitored, detected or recorded.
Once the wake-words are detected, your Invoke will actively listen to voice commands so
Cortana can respond. A recording of the speech audio is stored after activation. You can
listen to these recordings at https://account.microsoft.com/account/manage-my-account .
Once that interaction is done, the Invoke will, once again, only respond to the wake-words.
To mute the microphones at any time, press the Microphone On / Off button on the back of
the Invoke. Cortana won’t be able to hear you, even if you say “Hey Cortana.”
