OPERATION

Read the User Instructions carefully before use.

Save these instructions for future reference.

Connection

Connect the red plus cable to the plus terminal (+) on the battery and the black minus cable to the minus
(-) terminal on the battery.

Testing of alternator

1.

Connect the battery tester.

2.

Start the engine and switch off anything that consumes power such as the radio and lights etc.
Check the status on the instrument.

3.

Switch on the radio and lights etc. Check the status on the instrument. The green status light
GOOD should go on in both cases. The red status light DEFECTIVE goes on if the alternator does
not produce enough voltage or no voltage at all. Check that the instrument is correctly connected. If
the instrument is connected correctly, the alternator is defective.

Testing battery charging level

Switch off the engine.
1.

Connect the instrument to the battery terminals and switch on the headlights for 1-2 minutes.

2.

Disconnect the instrument, wait about 10 minutes and connect the instrument to the battery again.
One of the status lights FULL (fully charged), HALF-FULL (half charged) or VERY LOW CHARGE
(discharged) will go on depending on the battery charge level.

Testing battery charging capacity

The battery should be fully charged.
1.

Disable the ignition system (disconnect the ignition coil) so that the engine cannot start.

2.

Connect the instrument.

3.

Turn the ignition key so that the starter turns round the engine. The engine will not start, because
the ignition is disabled. The battery charging capacity is OK if the status light BATTERY OK goes
on.

If there is a fault on the starter the status light BATTERY OK will go on regardless of the battery charging
capacity.

WARNING:

Do not keep the ignition key turned for more than 2–3 seconds, otherwise the catalytic

converter can be damaged.
