Communication with the Shaker is accomplished by means of a keypad for input
and an LED display for output (see Figure 2-3, Shaker Keypad for Input/Output).

The following input/output conventions apply:
<any key>: When angle brackets around a keypad character appear in these
instructions, it indicates the exact key is to be pressed by the operator.
"output": In this service manual, non-italicized words in quotes are the literal
words that are shown on the Shaker display.
"
output
": italicized words in quotes are words or numbers that vary on the Shaker
display. Example: in this manual, the display for the date is expressed
"
DD
MMM
YY
" while the Shaker display will show actual data such as "01
JAN
02".
flashing
: A flashing character is indicated by bold type. If a character on the
display is flashing, its value may be increased or decreased by the operator, or
the operator may toggle (switch back and forth) between two possible choices.
Example: in the Shaker display "01
JAN
02" the bold "JAN" will be flashing.
START / STOP / PAUSE <*>: Pressing the start/stop <*> causes progression to the
next logical step in any one of the several Shaker functions available to the
operator:
z
From the "READY" mode, pressing <*> starts the blood collection function.
z
During collection, pressing <*> places the Shaker in a Pause mode.
Warning: While in the
pause
mode, do not press <*> a second time prior to
pressing <#> or the collection will terminate.
z
Upon collection completion, pressing <*> will terminate the collection
process.
