Accessing and Changing System Parameters
3.4.2 Arrow Icons
These icons move the menu cursor (>) when it is visible. During parameter
changes (menu cursor is not visible and parameter is blinking) the keys are
used to scroll through the possible parameter values. Note that on the Main
Screen, the menu cursor is not usually visible. Selecting an arrow icon will
make the cursor visible for selecting and performing parameter changes, e.g.
date and time.
3.4.3 Enter/Exit Icon
This icon (
E
) is used for selecting new menus and entering/exiting parameter
changes. When changing a parameter value, use the arrow icons to navigate
to the menu where the parameter is displayed. Park the cursor just in front of
the parameter (or its label), and activate the
E
icon. At that point, the cursor
will disappear and the parameter value will begin to blink. Now use the arrow
icons to scroll to the desired value. When the value has been set, activate the
icon again to store the new value permanently. Activate the
F
icon to abort the
change at any time. This will revert to the previous menu to indicate the value
has NOT been saved.
Note that with some parameters, such as “lfit” in the Alarms menu, the
E
icon
will cause the next character to the right to blink, indicating it may now be
changed. In this case, use
E
to advance the cursor all the way to the right until
the arrow cursor reappears.
For example, the first parameter you will most likely want to change is the date
and time. On Series 8400 instruments this parameter may be changed
directly on the Main Screen. To do so, activate the
F
icon until the Main Screen
appears. Then select the arrow icon(s) to position the cursor at the date
parameter. Activate the
E
icon and then use the arrow icons to scroll to the
correct value. Activate the
E
icon when finished to store the value, or
F
to
abort.
