Defrosting the freezer
When?
For the most efficient operation and minimum energy consumption, defrost the
freezer compartment when the frost on the freezer walls is excessive, or about half a
centimetre thick.
How?
To start defrosting, turn the temperature control (above the upper drawer) to
“OFF”, unplug the freezer and remove the food and storage drawers. (Keep any frozen
food temporarily in a fridge, cooler bag or covered with paper to keep defrosting to a
minimum.)
After the frost or ice in the freezer has melted, discard the melted water and clean and/
or dry all interior freezer surfaces thoroughly. (See below for how to clean the interior
surfaces.) Then turn the freezer thermostat to the desired setting to restart the freezer.
CAUTION!
Do not use boiling water to accelerate defrosting because it may damage the
plastic parts. In addition, never use a sharp or metallic instrument to remove
frost as it may damage the cooling system. To scrape ice off surfaces, use a
plastic scraper.
Cleaning the freezer
We recommend cleaning the freezer after defrosting it, while all frozen food and
drawers are already removed from the compartment.
•
Make sure the freezer is unplugged from the power supply, the temperature control is
set to 0 and all food and storage drawers are removed.
•
Wash the inside surfaces with a solution of warm water and baking soda (about 2
tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in 1.2 litres of water).
•
Wash the drawers with a mild detergent solution. Rinse and wipe dry with a clean, soft
cloth.
•
Clean the outside of the unit with mild detergent and warm water.
•
Make sure to wring excess water out of the sponge or cloth when cleaning around the
area of the controls or any electrical connections.
CAUTION!
Always unplug the unit from the power supply before cleaning and
maintenance. Failure to unplug it could result in electrical shock or personal
injury.
