water level sensor, this should be
disconnected from the IDC station.
The filter should be positioned
around 10 cm above the base of
the barrel. The other end of the
hose should be connected to the
IDC station. Cut the hose to the
desired length and connect to the
pump inlet (the left-hand input
marked with “I”). The hose to the
pump inlet should be mounted
straight in order to avoid leakage
and should not pull the IDC station
out of vertical alignment.
5 mm of hose should be inserted
into the pump inlet to ensure a
good connection. Tip! Measure
and mark 5 mm on the hose with
a piece of tape to ensure the hose
is inserted far enough into the
pump inlet.
Check the IDC station
If the batteries you installed in
the IDC station are charged, do
as follows: connect a section of
hose to the outlet (marked with O)
running back to the water barrel,
switch on the IDC station and
allow it to run until it stops.
The reason for this is to avoid the
charge in the batteries being too
great in relation to the quantity
of water your plants need. You
should therefore make sure you
discharge the batteries fully before
the IDC station is connected to the
watering system.
Installation of drippers
Connect the hose from the outlet
of the IDC station (marked with O).
Then you can begin constructing
your system to suit your exact
requirements.
The hose can be cut off and
connected as desired to reach your
plants. The highest dripper must
be no more than 5 metres above
the water barrel or 2 metres above
the lowest dripper. It is fine to
have offshoots running to several
drippers.
Using hose, drippers and tees
you can create a hose and dripper
configuration to suit the needs of
your individual garden. The drippers
should be positioned using
stakes to keep them in the correct
position.
Drippers must not be connected
directly to a tee; there must always
be a length of hose between any
tee and dripper.
It is possible to combine drippers
with seephoses (available to
purchase).
The distance from the water barrel
to the final dripper should be no
longer than 60 m.
For obvious reasons, the IDC
station will pump out more water
near the barrel than further away.
Therefore it is not ideal to have
just one dripper near the water
barrel and the rest 60 metres
away.
Depending on the IDC station, the
system is designed to handle 6-24
drippers (up to 12 with EADS-12,
up to 24 with EADS-24). These are
guidelines; depending on what you
intend to water the IDC station can
handle more drippers than stated
above. Do not use fewer than 6
drippers.
As you connect more drippers,
less water will come from each
dripper. The pressure in the
system reduces the more drippers
there are, likewise the permitted
differences in level in the position
of the drippers.
Installation of air valves
If the level of the water barrel is
higher than the first dripper or
seephose, an air valve is needed
to suck air out. This is to avoid the
water barrel being drained at an
uncontrolled rate.
How to install an air valve:
a. Remove the outlet hose from
the IDC station
b. Cut off the hose to a length of
5-10 cm (measured from the IDC
station).
c. Attach the air valve to the hose
running to the dripper.
d. Attach the cut section of hose to
the other side of the air valve.
e. Reattach the hose with the air
valve to the pump.
The drippers will continue to trickle
for a short period as the outlet
hose is drained, then they will
stop.
Start the IDC station
Turn the button to level 3. Don’t
worry if the pump does not start
immediately. It will start up within
a few hours in bright daylight. The
system does not operate in the
dark.
If the IDC station has watered
too much after 24 hours, turn
the level down, and if it waters
too little, turn it up. Repeat these
adjustments until you are satisfied.
If your pots drain off slightly after
having been watered in the
morning and it is a sunny day, this
is insufficient for most plants.
NB! Remember that different
plants need different quantities of
water. If you have different plants
in the same watering system, you
may need more than one dripper
for plants that require a lot of
water.
Important! The batteries do
not charge if the IDC station is
switched off.
