Cleaning Refrigeration System
In addition to replacement of compressor, capillary and strainer, the whole refrigeration system
shall be completely cleaned, as the refrigerant in the system is contaminated by a lot of acid
oxydum generated from insulation breakdown, turn-to-turn short circuit or burning out of winding
of compressor’s motor during malfunction.
The refrigeration oil in the mild-contaminated refrigeration system shall be limpid when
discharging from the process pipe of compressor. It shall be faint yellow (normally white) if
testing by lacmus paper. While severe- contaminated, it is black and the testing lacmus paper
becomes red 5min later.
The abluent R113 is used to clean the system.
Confirm the contamination degree by checking color and smell of refrigerant before cleaning
the system, as shown in the figure.
Check the refrigeration oil for impurity by discharging a little of oil from the process pipe of
compressor.
Cleaning Procedure:
1. Charge the abluent R113 into the fluid bath. Start up the pump to clean the system about
1hr if mid-contaminated or 3-4hr if severe-contaminated. In order to avoid blockage of strainer,
the abluent and the strainer shall be replaced after long-time cleaning.
2. The abluent after cleaning of the system can be recovered from liquid pipe and it can be
reused after processing.
3. The refrigeration pipeline should be blown off by nitrogen and dried after cleaning.
Disconnect the parts in the broken frame with the pipeline and install blind plates on ring
flanges of liquid suction and pumping pipes before drying process. In order to quickly dry the
system, make vacuum pumping while blow off hot wind to external refrigeration pipeline.
Afterwards, reassemble the pipeline (charge nitrogen while welding) and replace the
compressor and strainer.
Cautions:
1. In order to avoid leakage of abluent, pressure hose should be adopted and joint parts
should be tightly wrapped.
2. The expansion valve adopted by the unit shall be replaced by by-pass pipe.
3. Remove the moisture contained in the refrigeration system.
4. Use nitrogen to blow off the acid generated from burning out of compressor
11.2 Cleaning of Heater Exchanger
In order to improve energy efficiency, the heater exchanger, especially the condenser in the outdoor
unit, should be cleaned after operation of several years.
