Glue the front and rear fuselage sections together using Devcon; a good method is to
hold the fuselage vertical for this procedure. Apply just sufficient adhesive to obtain a
strong bond; excess resin may spoil the model’s appearance.
The canopy is supplied factory-trimmed to fit accurately on the model; glue it in place
using UHU-Por. The boundary layer fences are a tight fit in their slots, but you may wish
to secure them with wood glue to be on the safe side. The model looks even better if you
fit a dummy pilot; Order No. 916.3 is ideal (not included in the kit).
The fuselage hatch latch is a plastic part which should be glued in place using Devcon.
Caution: use the glue sparingly, as any excess could jam up the spring mechanism.
The retaining plate for the fuselage tank should also be installed using Devcon, so that
the “centre tank” can be attached using the retaining screws supplied in the kit.
The main retractable undercarriage units are fixed in place using the screws supplied.
Install the undercarriage actuating linkage as shown in the drawing in schematic form.
The complete noseleg unit is factory-installed in the front section of the fuselage, and
has already been adjusted. Each of the three retract units is actuated by a separate
servo; the three servos are then inter-connected by means of the cable loom which is
already in place. For this reason it is important to adjust the travel of the two main retract
units to match that of the nosewheel retract unit. When setting up the travel of the retract
units it is very useful to have a servo tester to hand; otherwise you will need to use the
transmitter to make the adjustments required. If the main retract servos are connected
using the Y-leads, then the wheel legs should be half-retracted / half-extended (i.e. 45°).
at the neutral position of the servos (servo output arms at centre); the end-points can
then be adjusted by altering the servo travel for each channel in turn. This procedure
may take some time, and calls for patience, but is important if the system is to work
reliably.
If your radio control system features sufficient receiver outputs, the easiest method is to
program the servo travel separately for each wheel leg, and then mix the channels
electronically at the transmitter, so that a single switch controls the process.
Please take plenty of time to work your way through this procedure, as you cannot
expect the retract system to function reliably in the air if it does not work properly - every
time - on the ground. The crucial point is that each retract unit must lock reliably both in
the retracted and extended positions.
The wings should be glued to the fuselage and the two tubular CFRP spar joiners using
Devcon (5-minute epoxy). Apply the adhesive sparingly to the joint surfaces, including
the channels for the carbon fibre tubes, then join the wings to the fuselage with the
CFRP tubes in place, align everything quickly and accurately, and leave the resin to cure
fully.
An alternative method is to fix the carbon fibre spars in place using foam-safe cyano. Fix
the servo connectors in the appropriate recesses using UHU-Por.
Glue the tailplane panels to the fuselage using 5-minute epoxy, setting these parts at the
correct angle relative to the wings and the fuselage centreline. Repeat the procedure
with the twin fins. Once again, use sufficient resin for a strong bond, but no more than
enough, as excess adhesive will spoil the appearance of the painted surfaces. Any gaps
which occur can be filled with white glue later.
