Control Box Connections
The motor powering this pump is FM-
Approved for Class 1, Division 1,
Groups C and D environments. Any liq-
uid level devices used with the pump
must be intrinsically safe for use in
these environments.
Any control box used to operate the
pump must be approved by the Gor-
man-Rupp Company for the application.
If the control box is to be installed in an
explosive environment, it must be a
Nema 7 rating or better. If a non-explo-
sion proof control box is used, it must be
located outside the explosive environ-
ment. Improper location of a non-explo-
sion proof control box could result in de-
struction of equipment, injury, or death
to personnel.
This pump is shipped completely wired for the volt-
age shown on the nameplate, and is ready for op-
eration through an approved control box.
Ground the control box in accordance with the in-
structions accompanying it.
Refer to the appropriate wiring diagram at the end
of this section for your motor frame size, and wire
the motor to the control box.
NOTE
For reference, internal motor wiring connections
are also shown in the wiring diagrams at the end of
this section.
Control leads P1 and P2 provide the motor with
moisture and thermal protection. Note that thermal
protection is supplementary
only
; separate Class
10 overload relays are required for motor running
protection.
The thermal protection contacts in the mo-
tor will automatically reclose when the mo-
tor cools to the established safe operating
temperature. Whenever automatic restart-
ing is not desirable, connect only to con-
trols which are wired for manual restart.
Liquid Level Devices
This pump requires wet well liquid level de-
vices to guard against overheating by en-
suring that the pump motor is partially cov-
ered with liquid at all times. Install the liquid
level devices and connect them to the con-
trol box in accordance with the instructions
accompanying the devices.
Optional controls available from Gorman-Rupp
may provide a means to automatically regulate the
liquid level. These control boxes may be con-
nected to the following sensing devices which per-
form
either
filling or dewatering functions (see Fig-
ure B−1).
The internal wiring of the sensing devices
are different for filling and dewatering func-
tions. Be sure to follow the instructions in-
cluded with the option before making con-
nections.
S
Bulb (Float) Type:
a bulb raises or lowers
(floats) with the liquid level, thus activating
an enclosed miniature switch.
