Expanding Your Computer
Using Smart Cards
Your computer has a smart card slot.
With an embedded microcontroller, smart cards have the unique ability to
store large amounts of data, carry out their own on-card functions (e.g.,
encryption and mutual authentication), and interact intelligently with a
smart card reader.
To insert a smart card:
1.
Locate the smart card slot on the left side of the computer and open the
protective cover.
2.
Slide the smart card, with its label and embedded chip facing up into the
slot.
3.
Close the cover.
4.
When a new card is seated, use the third-party smart card software to
allow your computer to read it.
To remove a smart card:
1.
Make sure that the third-party smart card software is not accessing the
smart card.
2.
Pull the card out of the slot.
3.
Close the cover.
