1-1 GENERAL
This chapter provides a description of the HGU-55/P Helmet. It also includes lists of the
equipment, tools, and materials needed to maintain the helmet.
1-2 HELMET DESCRIPTION
The HGU-55/P Helmet ( Figure 1-1 ) provides basic head protection, sound attenuation, and
communications for aircrew personnel. The helmet features a snap-on visor assembly that
provides facial protection to users from windblast, high light intensity, spall resulting from canopy
or wind screen failure, and particles arising from ballistic fragmentation.
