Safety Instructions!
Carefully follow these instructions
during installation.
WARNING
– Take caution when
working with batteries. Lead acid
batteries can create explosive
gasses. Short circuits can draw
thousands of amps from a battery.
Carefully read and follow all
instructions supplied with the battery.
Use only 12V lead acid batteries.
Do not short circuit
the solar array
when plugged into the controller.
This will permanently
DESTROY
the
controller.
Do not measure short circuit
current
of the array while connected
to the controller. This will short the
array, and permanently
DESTROY
the controller.
Installation
1.
Mounting
The GV-‐4 can be mounted in
any orientation.
Do not expose to water.
Do not mount near a source of heat.
Mount near battery.
2.
Connect the Solar Panel.
Connect the solar panel to the GV-4
Panel input.
DO NOT
connect the
solar ground to your system ground,
your batteries will be damaged
Note: In the GV-4, the
positive
side of the battery is connected
internally to the positive side of the
solar panel.
3.
Connect the Battery.
A small spark while connecting the
battery is ok.
4.
No Blocking Diodes.
The GV-4 prevents the battery from
discharging through the solar array
during the night. Blocking diodes are
not required if only one panel is being
used.
Run/Charge Indication
The GV-‐4 has a red/green status LED.
Standby.
The battery is connected
properly, and charging will begin
when solar panel power is
available.
LED:
[8–10s between green blinks]
Charging,
with less than
about 1.5 A.
LED:
[fast short green blinks]
Charging,
with more
current than about 1.5 A.
LED:
[longer green blinks]
Current Limit:
The GV-‐4
is charging the battery
with 4A, and the panel
could probably produce more power.
Might work better with a GV-‐10.
LED:
[long blink, short green blink]
Battery charged.
LED:
[solid green]
