WARNING
Do not use the extractor to force the unit into the shelf as this could
result in damage to the extractor.
WARNING
Inserting the ETHER-1000 unit into a working position without ACK
button pressed may cause traffic disruption in an in-service system!
2. Gently insert the ETHER-1000 unit into the appropriate shelf position while
holding the ACK button in. Seat the unit into the shelf by pushing the front
panel‟s bottom left corner. (Ensure the extractor is not preventing the unit
from insertion.)
3. Establish a local VistaNET connection to the ETHER-1000 unit. Configure
the parameters in the Line Setup tab as per the Node Assignment Drawing for
the node.
4. Connect the ETHER-1000 unit Line ports to the OC-
N JMUX units‟ CBW
ports using the CBW cables selected in Step 1 (as per the NAD). Normally,
the left Line port connects to the left OC-N JMUX unit while the right Line port
connects to the right OC-N JMUX unit, but some exceptions are possible
(refer to the
Ring and Linear Network
subsection presented earlier in this
section). Note that one of the two Line ports may alternatively be connected
to another ETHER-
1000 unit‟s line port (cascading).
5.
Use the information available in the NAD‟s
OC-N Unit Cross-Connect Table
to
program the OC-
N JMUX unit‟s CBW port for proper mode of operation and to
drop the desired STS-1 SPEs into proper SPE slots.
Note
: At the nodes where one or more TDM pipes are not accessed, the
respective STS-1(s) must be passed through as "bulk".
6. On the ETHER-1000 unit expect to see only green LED(s) on. If not, see the
troubleshooting section.
7. Configure other unit parameters (including enabling the used drop ports) as
required for the given application at this site.
