Configuring the D400
When you receive your D400, it is configured with default communication settings. To
enable the D400 to communicate over your network, you must change the settings as
required by your system.
6.1 Connecting
to
the
D400 for the First Time
To perform the initial set up of the D400, you need to plug directly into the D400 through
the front serial communications port. The front communications port provides a local
connection and terminal session with the D400 used to perform system administrative
and maintenance procedures.

To connect to the D400:
1.
Connect the supplied null modem cable (GE Part No. 977-0529/72) to your
computer’s serial communications port and to the D400's front communications port.
See section “4.10 Front Maintenance Port” for cabling information.
2.
From the Windows
Start
menu, select
Programs
>
Accessories
>
Communications
>
HyperTerminal
.
The
HyperTerminal
window opens and a connection wizard starts.
3.
In the
Connection Description
dialog box, enter a
Name
for the connection. Click
OK
.
Note:
The name you choose is
not
important.
4.
In the
Connect to
dialog box, select your computer's communication port (typically
COM1) in the
Connect using
list. Click
OK.
