Connecting the Cables

The SCSI backplane comes from the factory with cables connected. 
However, if you ever need to reconnect any cables or to replace or install the 
backplane, follow the directions below.

1.

A single cable is used and termination must be enabled (jumper 
removed from JP3) for the system to operate properly.

2.

Plug one end of the SCSI cable into the RAID Bay and the other end 
into the RAID SCSI controller, which controls the RAID bay. Be sure 
to enable the termination on this channel.

3.

Reinstall the top cover.

4.

Power-up the system and install any device drivers required by the 
SCSI controller for your operating system. Follow the instructions in 
the documentation that came with your SCSI controller for more 
information on setting up the SCSI controller.

5.

Install the hard disk drives as shown in “Installing the Drives” on 
page 61.

Installing the Drives

The RAID bay accommodates up to three LVD SCA drives. Drives are 
mounted on a rail system that allows quick and easy installation, and hot-
swapping.

Label the SCSI Channel and the SCSI ID numbers on the front of the 
drive.

Note:

Each drive has a Drive 
Number label affixed to the 
front of the drive. The drive 
number on the label 
corresponds to the device’s 
SCSI ID. Drives must be 
installed in ascending order 
starting from the bottom bay.
