VERTICAL SCANNING DISPLAY
The vertical scanning display provides a wide fish eye view of
underwater conditions from the surface to the seabed. The fig-
ure below illustrates the concept of the vertical scanning mode,
in comparison with the normal sonar beam. The vertical scan-
ning mode helps you keep fast moving fish such as bonito and
tuna within the sonar beam.

Using Vertical Scanning Display
1. Press the VERT SCAN key on the main panel. The lamp above the switch lights, indicat-
ing that the vertical scanning function is ON.
2. Press the TILT/SCAN lever to set a scan-
ning depth. Your selection appears at the
upper right-hand corner of the display
like “D120M”. Select a scanning depth
which does not display the seabed, so you
won’t hide any echoes in the seabed.
When the seabed is hard and rocky, it
may appear even if may appear even if
the scanning depth is set shallower than
the seabed depth. In such case, set the
scanning depth further shallower.
3. To suppress sea surface reflections, open
the data setting window and set the VER
BEAM in the SONR•BEAM item to
other than 0. Upper part of the beam dents
as shown at right.
4. To escape from the vertical scanning
mode, press the VERT SCAN key.
