Focus.
Press the shutter button halfway
to focus. If the flash will fire,

will be displayed when the
shutter button is pressed halfway.
At slow shutter speeds,

will appear in
the display to warn that pictures may be
blurred; use of a tripod is recommended.

Shoot.
Press the shutter button the rest
of the way down to shoot.

Caution
The flash may fire several times with each shot.
Do not move the camera until shooting is
complete.
Red-Eye Removal
When Intelligent Face Detection is active
(pg. 24), and
ON
is selected for
a
RED
EYE REMOVAL
in the setup menu (pg.
79), red-eye removal is available in
V
,
U
, and
Z
. Red-eye removal minimizes
“
red-eye
” caused when light from the flash is
reflected from the subject’s retinas as shown in the
illustration at right.

Silent Mode
In situations in which camera sounds or light from
the flash may be unwelcome, press the
DISP/BACK
button until
U
is displayed in the monitor.
The camera speaker, shooting indicator, flash, and
indicator and self-timer lamps turn off (note that the
flash will still fire in
A
mode). Flash and volume
settings (pg. 83) can not be adjusted while silent
mode is in effect. To restore normal operation, press
the
DISP/BACK
button until the
U
icon is no longer
displayed.
