Choose how the camera meters exposure (
B
mode only; not available when Intelligent Face
Detection is on).

MULTI
: Automatic scene recognition is used
to adjust exposure for a wide range of shooting
conditions.

SPOT
: The camera meters lighting conditions
at the center of the frame. Recommended when
the background is much brighter or darker than
the main subject. Can be used with focus lock
(pg. 22) to meter off -center subjects.
•
w
AVERAGE
: Exposure is set to the average for
the entire frame. Provides consistent exposure
across multiple shots with the same lighting.

WHITE BALANCE
WHITE BALANCE
For natural colors, choose a setting that matches
the light source (for an explanation of “white bal-
ance,” see the Glossary on page 92).

• This option is available in

• Auto white balance is used with the fl ash. Turn the
fl ash off (pg. 25) to take pictures at other settings.
• Results vary with shooting conditions. Play pictures
back after shooting to check colors in the monitor.
