Low Fluid Level
Report
The Low Fluid Level indicator and the Alarm Lamp will illuminate, and the buzzer will sound.
(based on the value set for the nOIS parameter in the Miscellaneous Menu) When the fluid
level drops below the float, the pump and refrigeration are automatically stopped to prevent
damage to the chiller.
Description
The level of the process fluid in the reservoir has dropped below acceptable limits. The Low
Fluid report is designed to protect the pump, system and process equipment if the fluid level
drops. Decreasing levels could result from normal evaporation, or could be the result of a leak
in the chiller, the process equipment, or the lines between. In addition, certain process fluids
have extremely high coefficients of expansion. Low temperatures can cause a dramatic drop in
the overall volume.
Detection
A float switch is installed in the reservoir. If the level of the fluid drops below a critical level, an
alarm condition is triggered.
Action
In either case, the operator should conduct a close inspection of the chiller, internally and
externally, to ensure there are no leaks that might be allowing fluid to escape the system.
Once the system has been verified intact, additional coolant fluid should be added to the
reservoir.
Do not simply add fluid until the alarm goes away. The alarm itself requires a manual reset
with the ALM CLR button.
Eliminate any leaks that have been detected. Add fluid to the reservoir to raise the level of the
fluid to the acceptable level. Press ALM CLR, to reset the alarm.
