Important safety notes
G
WARNING
The rear lamps are concealed when the tail-
gate is opened. This could mean that other
road users may not realize until too late that
the vehicle is an obstruction. There is a risk
of an accident.
Therefore you should make sure that the
vehicle is safeguarded at the rear in accord-
ance with national legal requirements, e.g.
with a warning triangle.

headlamps
The light switch can be used to switch the
vehicle lighting on or off. The high-beam head-
lamps and the headlamp flasher are operated
using the combination switch (

page 50).
A warning tone sounds if the driver's door is
opened while:
R
the low-beam headlamps are switched on
and the ignition lock is in radio position

the parking lamps or low-beam headlamps

Low-beam headlamps
X
Turn the light switch to
L
.
The low-beam headlamps and parking lamps
are switched on. The
T
indicator lamp in
the instrument cluster lights up.
The low-beam headlamp beams are asymmet-
rical. For this reason, in countries where vehi-
cles drive on the opposite side of the road to
the country where the vehicle is registered,
there is a danger of oncoming traffic being
dazzled.
Automatic headlamp mode
G
WARNING
If the light switch is set to
c
and it is
foggy, snowing or there is poor visibility, the
low-beam headlamps will not come on auto-
matically. There is a risk of an accident.
In such situations, turn the light switch to
L
.
Automatic headlamp mode is only an aid. The
driver is responsible for the vehicle lighting at
all times.
When it is dark or foggy, turn the light switch
from
c
to
L
in good time. The head-
lamps may otherwise be switched off tempora-
rily.
X
Switch the ignition lock to the drive posi-
tion.
X
Turn the light switch to
c
.
The low-beam headlamps and parking lamps
are switched on or off automatically depend-
ing on light conditions. When the low-beam
headlamps are switched on, the
T
indi-
cator lamp in the instrument cluster lights
up.
