INSTALLATION
Physical Installation
1.
Assemble the three volute casting legs, leg bolts
and nuts, and volute, then tighten with a 1/2-inch or
crescent wrench.
2. Install the pump in a suitable gas-tight basin at least
24 inches in diameter and 48 inches deep, vented in
accordance with local, state, and federal plumbing
codes.
3. Place the pump-basin assembly on a hard, level sur
-
face.
•
Never place pump directly on clay, earth, or
gravel surfaces.
•
Secure the pump so the starting torque does
not cause the pump to contact anyone or any
-
thing.
4. Install discharge piping.
•
Do not use piping smaller than the pump dis
-
charge.
•
Use ABS, PVC, polyethylene, or stainless steel
pipe.
•
For rail systems, use proper adapters to connect
nonmetal pipe.
5. Install a full-flow check valve in the discharge line horizontally.
•
A ball check valve is recommended.
NOTE:
If installed vertically, solids may settle in the valve and prevent it from opening at start-up.
6. Drill a 3/16-inch diameter relief hole in the discharge pipe below the floor line and between the pump
discharge and check valve.
NOTE:
If not provided, the pump could “air lock” and will not pump water even though it will run.
7. Install a shut-off valve following the check valve.
Risk of personal injury, or damage to pump or other equipment.
•
Check that lifting equipment complies with all safety rules, and is suitable to support the weight of
the pump.
