Putting into service and operation
Left-hand, red LED
(light-emitting diode): If the charger is connected to the AC line and
the left-hand LED goes red, the charger is OK. If the LED is red and flashing, the
charger has a fault.
If there is a fault, the left-hand LED is red and flashing. This indicates a charger mal-
function - further charging is not possible. A new or long time not used battery gets its
full power after 5 charge and discharge cycles.

Charging procedure
Voltage, temperature, short-circuits and polarity checks are made on inserted batteries.
Before charging is started, the safety elements (Bi-metal or NTC) will be checked over
the temperature contact.
Flashing red
(right-hand LED): Because of the intelligent charging the charging state of
the insert battery will be determined during the first 4 seconds.
Charging state detection is a special feature of this charging method. By modifying the
charging current, it is possible to prevent excess internal battery pressure and a rise in
the charging voltage.
Flashing green
(right-hand LED): The battery is fully charged. Because of this charging
version the battery will be protected and always fully charged. The battery can be left in-
definitely in the charger without sustaining any damage. Overcharging is impossible.
Flashing red
(right-hand LED): The LED indicates that the battery temperature is not
within the rapid charging temperature range of 5°C - 40°C. As soon as the allowable
temperature range is reached, the battery charger automatically switches to rapid
charging.
Continuous red
(right-hand LED): The battery is defective.
