| Installation and operating instructions
1. General
Airfi x D diaphragm pressure expansion vessels are compliant with EU Directive 97/23/EC.
Certifi cation is available at the manufacturer. Items included are one Airfi x D (A), one Airfi x TD
T-piece (B), the installation, operation and maintenance manual (C), and an optional Airfi xControl
maintenance fi tting (D). Information on the manufacturer, year of construction and other technical
data is displayed on the product label. Airfi x D vessels are for use with potable water systems.
Airfi x D vessels can also be used in pressurization systems.
Safety requirements
Install and operate Airfi x D vessels only if the vessel is free from visible damage. In order to keep
within the operating parameters, appropriate safety accessories must be fi tted. Disregard of this
manual may lead to defects in the vessel, impairment of its function, personal injury or damage to
property. To ensure a constant pressure in the mains water supply to the Airfi x D, a pressure
reducing valve must be fi tted upstream in the pipeline after the water meter.
2. Installation
The Airfi x vessel must be installed in combination with the Airfi x TD (B). Without the Airfi x TD the
vessel will not have the fl ow-through function as required for DVGW or KIWA approval. Maximum
torque for connecting the fl ow-through device is 100 Nm.
The installation must be carried out by approved personnel only. Observe local regulations at all
times. Airfi x D vessels 8 – 25 litres must be mounted hanging at the water connection (F). If
mounted to a wall, vessel support MB 2/ MB 3 (G) is available as an accessory. Airfi x D 35 litre
must be mounted to the suspension hook (H) with the water connection (F) pointing downwards.
We recommend a combination with the Airfi xControl maintenance fi tting (D) (available as an
accessory).
1. Fit the Airfi x TD T-piece (B) in the cold water feed pipe. The direction of water fl ow has no
infl uence on the Airfi x TD T-piece.
2. Apply synthetic tape (J) (Tefl on) to the connection of the Airfi x D (and Airfi xControl)
(do not use hemp under any circumstances!).
3. Optional: screw the Airfi xControl maintenance fi tting (D) into the T piece.
4. Screw the Airfi x D (or Airfi xControl) into the T-piece.
First use
1. Shut off the water pipe (K) and remove pressure from the water system.
2. Set the pre-charge of the expansion vessel 0.2 bar lower than the set pressure of the pressure
reducing valve (please see the vessel label for the factory pre-charge):
• Remove the cap (L) and the plug (M).
• Measure the pressure (P).
• If the pressure is too high at the gas top-up valve (S), blow off some gas. If the pressure is too
low, top it up, e.g. with a nitrogen canister.
3. Re-fi t the plug (M) and the cap (L).
4. Re-open the water pipe.
5. Check the seals.
