5.10 Proper procedures: Further recommendations and
guidelines
5.10.1 Protection from falling overboard and means of climbing back
aboard
The work decks of the boat are marked in Figure 7. Do not sit, stand or otherwise
remain in any other areas when the boat is moving.
In the event of falling overboard, climbing back onto the boat is easiest using the
swim ladder on the boat's transom. The ladder can also be extended from the water.
Remember to stop the engine when a swimmer is approaching the boat.

5.10.2 Stowing of removable equipment
All heavy equipment, such as anchors, must be stowed securely before setting off.
Also remember that light objects can easily be caught up in the wind.
5.10.3 Environmental considerations
Preservation of the unique natural properties of archipelagos and lakes is every
boater's duty. Avoid the following:
Fuel and oil leaks
Discharge of waste or rubbish into the water or onto the shore
Discharge of detergents or solvents into the water
Causing loud noise, whether out on the water or in harbour
Causing wake wash, especially on narrow straits and shallow waters.
Always adhere to the applicable environmental laws and regulations. Familiarise
yourself with the provisions of the International Convention for the Prevention of
Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
5.10.4 Anchoring, mooring and towing
Always moor the boat carefully, even in sheltered locations, because conditions may
change unexpectedly. The mooring lines should be equipped with shock-absorbing
springs. Mooring points are shown in Figure 8. Do not use any other parts of the boat
