Using your Fire Topper Fire Bowl -
For
your safety, read before lighting.
Before operating smell all around the appliance area for gas odors and next to the floor because some gases are
heavier then air and will settle on the floor. Propane is heavier than air and will settle given the opportunity to.
Use only your hand to turn the manual gas control valve. Never use tools. If the valve will not turn by hand, do not try to
repair it. Call a qualified service technician. Force or attempted repair may result in a fire or explosion.
What to do if you smell gas. Shut off gas. Extinguish any open flame. Do not try to light the appliance. Recheck and
tighten all connections. If odor continues shut off both the Fire Topper Regulator and the Propane Tank valve. If the odor
continues please disconnect the propane tank and contact Fire Topper LLC for service.
To Operate:
1.
Make sure everyone other than the person lighting the Fire Topper Fire Bowl are clear of the area where the
bowl is to be operated.
2.
Turn the Red ON/OFF valve to the OFF position. Turn the valve on the propane tank to the OFF position.
3.
Connect the regulator valve to the propane tank.
4.
Open the valve on the propane tank.
NOTE: The propane regulator in this appliance is equipped with an adjustable regulator which
controls the amount of propane to the burner. Unless the propane cylinder valve is opened
before the adjustable regulator there will be no gas flow.
5.
Slowly open the regulator valve.
6.
Use an extended log lighter to hold a flame around the decorative rock until the flame ignites.
7.
Once the flame ignites use the regulator to control the desired flame.
8.
If the flame does not ignite or ignites but goes out it may be likely that the regulator was not open far enough
to allow for enough propane to ignite properly. In that case shut off shut off the regulator and propane supply
and wait three minutes to allow all gas fumes to clear and retry.
DANGER!
In the event that a burner goes out, turn burner knobs to the full OFF position and let it air out. Do not attempt to use
the fire bowl until the gas has had time to dissipate. Propane gas source to the fire bowl must be regulated. Do not
operate if regulator has been removed. Fire or explosion can occur.
CAUTION!
Do not use charcoal or other solid fuel in gas burning appliances. Do not use your fire bowl for cooking. Do not heat
any unopened glass or metal container of food in the fire bowl. Pressure may build up and cause the container to
burst, possibly resulting in serious personal injury or damage to the fire bowl.
Never use the fire bowl in windy conditions. If used in a consistently windy area a windbreak will be required. Always
adhere to the specified clearances listed in this manual.
Never allow clothing or other flammable materials come in contact with any hot surface until it has fully cooled.
Never wear loose fitting or hanging garments while using your fire bowl. Fabric may ignite and result in personal injury.
When handling propane gas line and connectors, do not allow them to come in contact with any metal surfaces. Do
not drop propane connectors.
NOTE: Propane is heavier than air and will tend to settle. Please allow a few seconds for the propane to spread amongst
the decorative rock to achieve a full flame.
Cleaning, Maintenance, Storage
Clean and inspect you fire bowl annually. Periodically remove the decorative rocks and examine the burner. If the
burner is dirty, clean it with a soft wire brush. Remove any dirt or debris in this area. This will ensure long life and trouble-
free operation. Carbon (soot) may build up on the surfaces of the burner with heavy use. Clean soot off the surface of
the burner periodically to prevent excessive buildup. To clean the burner, be sure the fire is out, the gas supply is
disconnected and the burners are cool to the touch. The soot can then be brushed off with a dry bristle brush or cloth.
Note: Do NOT spray water directly onto the burner. When not in use and after cooling, cover your fire bowl with a
waterproof cover. The cover will help protect your fire bowl from detrimental effects of weather and environmental
pollutants. Before placing the cover on the fire bowl, make sure the unit is shut off, that the gas lines are disconnected
and that the unit has had sufficient time to cool.
