Operational Procedure
5 - OPERATING PROCEDURE
WARNING
Never leave the Chair unsupported with a patient
on-board as the chair is designed to tilt back easily.
5.1 - General Principles
When moving patients, always inform them of what you are going to do.
Always follow good lifting procedures as specified in the current manual handling regulations and your appropriate training manual.
Medical advice is beyond the parameters of this manual. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure safe practices for the patient and themselves.
Placement techniques, heavy patients, rough terrain or unusual circumstances may require more attendants.
Operators must take extra care precautions when operating the chair on uneven ground.
Extra precautions should be taken to prevent the chair from slipping in adverse, wet or icy weather conditions.
Stay with the patient at all times and always use the patient restraints provided.
5.2 - Placing the Patient
Use a recognised patient handling technique to place the patient
on the Chair.
5.3 - Securing the Patient
After placement on the Chair, the patient should be secured to the
Chair with the leg and chest restraints.
WARNING
In cases of cervical, spinal or some fracture
injuries, use of the Chair for patient transfer is not
recommended.
5.4 - Rolling the Patient and Chair
After placing the patient on the Chair and fastening the restraints,
the attendants move to positions at the front and rear of the Chair.
For the Compact and the Compact 2 carry chairs, the rear
attendant grasps the Chair frame, then tilts the patient/chair back
until the weight is balanced on the Chair wheels. The Chair can
then be rolled without lifting.
The Compact 1-S has two wheels affixed to the foot end frame.
These assist with movement on level ground and mean that the
chair can be used without tilting backwards. The operator at the
foot end of the chair assists as required with obstacles like door
frames or uneven surfaces. The lower handle can be used to
overcome larger obstacles.
5.4 - Carrying the Patient and Chair
To carry the patient, the same “tilt/back and balance” procedure is
used. The attendants grasp the front and rear carrying handles and
lift simultaneously, using local recommended lifting guidelines .
WARNING
Before positioning the patient on the chair, always
ensure the chair is fully unfolded and that the safety
rings are up and over each hinge bracket.
