DIP switch
Fig. 23: DIP switch
The DIP switch (in German humorously also called “Mice’s piano”) consists
of small switches allowing to make certain settings. Each specific position
of these switches activates one of the programs stored in the Traffic-Con-
trol unit. Colour and print of the DIP switch may vary.
Potentiometer
Fig. 24: Potentiometer
A potentiometer (‘Poti’ for short) is an electric resistor component. A screwdri-
ver is generally used to modify the value of its resistance mechanically. You
can thus adjust in most of the programs the duration for which an output
of your Traffic-Control or Traffic-Light-Control is activated. The angle of
rotation ranges between 0° (bottom right) and 270° (top right). Position 0°
corresponds to the shortest adjustable duration of 1 second, while 270° cor-
respond to the longest adjustable duration of 35 seconds.
Flip-flop
On a flip-flop an output (e.g. a stop section) is activated through an input
(sensor) and deactivated through another input (sensor), see also programs
12, 13 and 15 in the chapter »Traffic-Control programs«. The maximum
activation period is 40 seconds. If, once that time interval has passed, no
deactivation has occurred, there will be a safety switching-off to avoid any
possible overheating of one component.
