REAR AXLE
The only maintenance necessary for the first five years is the inspection of the rear axle for lubricant leakage. Unless
leakage is visible, the lubricant needs to be replaced after five years. Refer to the Service and Repair Manual for the fluid
replacement procedure.
Checking the Lubricant Level
Clean the area around the check/fill plug and remove the plug. The correct lubricant level is just below the bottom of the
threaded hole. If lubricant is low, add lubricant as required. Add lubricant (0 WT engine oil) slowly until lubricant starts to
seep from the hole. Install the check/fill plug. In the event that the lubricant is to be replaced, the oil pan must be removed
or the oil siphoned through the check/fill hole.

HARDWARE
Normally, three classes of standard hardware and three classes of metric hardware are used in the vehicle. Grade 5
hardware is identified by the three marks on the hexagonal head; grade 8 hardware is identified by six marks on the
head; grade 2 hardware is not marked. The class specification is marked on metric hardware.
Inspect the vehicle for loose fasteners periodically. The fasteners must be tightened carefully and according to the
Torque Specifications table or as specified in the Repair and Service Manual.
