NOTES:
When using TP cable in bundles or conduits, consider the following:
•
Do not exceed 40% fill capacity in conduits.
•
Do not comb the cable for the first 65 feet (20 meters), where cables are
straightened, aligned, and secured in tight bundles.
•
Loosely place cables and limit the use of tie wraps or hook-and-loop fasteners.
•
Separate twisted pair cables from AC power cables.
TP Cable Termination for Ethernet Communication
It is vital that your Ethernet cable be the correct cable type and that it be properly terminated
with the correct pinout. Ethernet links use Category (CAT) 3, 5e, or CAT 6, unshielded
twisted pair (UTP) or shielded twisted pair (STP) cables, terminated with RJ-45 connectors.
Ethernet cables are limited to a length of 330 feet (100 meters).
The cable can be terminated as either a patch cable or a crossover cable (see figure 7) and
must be properly terminated for the application:
•
Patch (straight‑through) cable
— Connection of the device to an Ethernet hub,
router, or switch that also hosts a controlling computer.
•
Crossover cable
— Direct connection between the switcher and a controlling
computer.

Pins:
A cable that is wired as TIA/EIA T568A at one
end and T568B at the other (Tx and Rx pairs
reversed) is a "crossover" cable.
A cable wired the same at both ends is called
a "straight-through" cable because no pin/pair
assignments are swapped.

Remote RS-232 Control Wiring
RS-232 communication between the distribution amplifier and a host PC can be used to
update firmware or configure the unit using SIS commands (see
The computer connects to either the rear panel 3-pole RS-232 port (see
on
page 4) or the front panel USB port (see
,
on page 5) of the distribution
amplifier.
NOTES:
•
Neither port has precedence and commands from either port are handled in the
order they are received.
•
Extron recommends that the USB port is used for temporary connections. If a
permanent connection is required, the RS-232 port should be used.
