Installing the Mulch Kit
(For Serial Nos.
160,000–314,999,999)

1.

Make sure all moving parts have stopped,
parking brake is engaged, and the key has been
removed.

2.

Raise the front of the machine and support with
jack stands.

CAUTION

Raising the mower deck for service
or maintenance relying solely on
mechanical or hydraulic jacks could be
dangerous. The mechanical or hydraulic
jacks may not be enough support or
may malfunction allowing the unit to fall,
which could cause injury.

Do Not rely solely on mechanical
or hydraulic jacks for support. Use
adequate jack stands or equivalent
support.

3.

Flip up discharge deflector. If mower has been
used, scrape underside of mower deck clean.
Remove the discharge deflector on Lazer Z
HP’s or Lazer Z CT’s.

4.

Remove the dogleg discharge baffle (see

Figure

3

).

5.

First remove the bolt used to plug the hole in
the top of the deck when mulching baffles are
not installed. Install new mulching baffles and
blocker baffle, Items 1, 2, and 11. Refer to

Figure 3

for location. Use hardware as shown.

6.

Install cover plate, Item 3, to holes in right side
of deck. Refer to

Figure 3

Install bolts with

heads to outside of deck.

7.

Install new mulching blades in place of existing
blades. Use black blades on mowers with 5/8
inch blade bolt, S/N 539,999 & below. Torque
blade bolt to 115-120 ft-lb. Use red blades on
mowers with 1/2 inch blade bolt and splined
spacer. Torque blade bolt to 115-120 ft-lb.

WARNING

Incorrect installation of the blade or
components used to retain the blade can
be dangerous. Failure to use all original
components and assembled as shown
could allow a blade or blade component
to be thrown out from under the deck
resulting in serious personal injury or
death.

Always install the original Exmark blades
and blade retaining hardware as shown
in the Operator’s manual.

8.

Install 5/16 x 5/8 hex head capscrew with
whizlock nut back into hole in top of deck where
dogleg discharge baffle was removed. All open
holes in top of deck not covered by shields
must be plugged to prevent sand or other small
objects from being thrown up through deck.

9.

Tighten all hardware.

10.

Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the
machine to the ground.
