6.5 eCon-XPE System
eCon-XPE is an embedded operating system developed based on Windows Embedded
Standard 2009 development tool. It has the same core with Windows XP Professional.
It not only has common functions, features and application software compatibility of
Windows XP Professional, but also has Enhanced Write Filter and other functions that
Windows XP system does not have. Meanwhile, eCon-XPE operating system also
integrates EVOC BPI and system logo self-defined software.
6.5.1 Enhanced Write Filter (EWF)
1. Purpose and Function
EWF (Enhanced Write Filter) is a function which can only be used for Windows
Embedded operating system. It provides write protection which can be configured by
users.
Enhanced Write Filter can be used to load Windows Embedded Standard 2009 from
write protection media (e.g. CD-ROM), set up write protection for each partition, and
adjust performance of file system according to actual requirements. (e.g. when using
CF card).
Using EWF can minimize the times of write access to CF card. This is a very
important point, because the write cycle of CF card is limited for technical reasons.
