CONFIGURATION
The 7800TR-32X24 Tally Router is primarily configured and controlled through the Ethernet port using
the SNMP and Quartz protocols.
4.1
SETTING THE IP ADDRESS
Usually the first configuration step is to assign an IP address to the tally router. The process of
accessing the card edge serial port is described in section 3.3.1. To summarize:
1. Connect the COM port of a PC or laptop to the card edge using a WA-S76 upgrade cable.
2. Open the serial port using a terminal program such as HyperTerminal.
3. Configure the port for 115200 BAUD, 8 data bits, no parity, and 2 stop bits.
4. Ensure that the 7800TR-32x24 is fully inserted into the frame and powered up.
5. Press ENTER in the terminal and the “
CLI>
” command line interface prompt should appear.
The IP address of the unit can be set with the “
ifconfig
” command. The general format of the
command is shown as follows:
ifconfig 0 inet [IP] netmask [SUBNETMASK] broadcast [BROADCAST] gateway [GATEWAY]
Assign an unused IP address that is compatible with your network’s addressing scheme. Below is an
example of a typical command:
ifconfig 0 inet 172.21.1.75 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 172.21.1.255 gateway
1
72.21.1.1
Once the command has been entered, the tally router will start using the IP address immediately.
Perform a “ping” test to see if the connection is working.
A reboot is not necessary after changing the IP address, however the card requires
30 seconds to save the new settings to the flash (NVRAM). Avoid rebooting or
powering down the card until this time period has elapsed.
