FUNCTION
The welding requires the use of flux. This flux is principally composed of a rosin
resin, and is mixed with an activator (organic halogen agent), which is commonly
called "pine resin". The main component of rosin is abietic acid (C
20
H
3
O
2
). In this
process, noxious components such as salicylic acid (HOC
6
H
4
COOH) evaporates in the
welding smoke. The fluxes containing large amounts of resin generate phenol
(C6H5OH) and the activators generate hydrochloric acid (HCL), etc. Inhalation of
these harmful components can cause headaches, eye irritation, etc. The smoke
absorber is a product of new conception, with a fan and a high-performance carbon
filter, designed to absorb the fumes deriving from tinning.
