Serial to IP gateways

16.1

Overview

Depending on the model, the XS provides 2 serial ports : 2 RS232, or 1 RS232 and 1 RS485, or 1 RS422 isolated
or 1 RS485 isolated.

A gateway can be assigned to each serial port.

A serial gateway makes possible to use the IP network to transport serial data between two or several serial
devices or directly with devices connected to the Ethernet network.

•

Communication between serial devices

•

Communication between a serial device and a PC

via a COM port emulation software

•

Communication between serial devices and a PC

software application able to encapsulate the serial data
into UDP or TCP (like a Modbus TCP software
application for instance).

To perform the functions described above, several types of gateways are available.
