  7• OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

CENTRALISED CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUST-

MENT

Proceed only after engine has been switched off. Set the cut-
ting height according to the height of the grass to be cut.

• To release the centralized adjustment lever from its notch, pull it

outwards (see 1 picture 10). Then turn it to the desired position
(see 2 picture 10) and release it into its new notch.

• The numerical values on the indicator correspond to the cutting

height in millimetres.

• Adapt the cutting height to the height and density of the grass and

the weather conditions. If the grass to be cut is very dense or wet, the
cutting height will need to be raised.

STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE

Before use, always make a visual check to ensure that the
blade, attaching screws and coupling are not worn or damaged.
Also check that the handlebar is locked and that the nut-bolts
are tight on the lower attachment.

• Before starting the engine, always check the oil level.
• Place the mower on a horizontal and unencumbered area. Remove

the dipstick and clean it and the perimeter of the

fi

 ller pipe with a

clean cloth. Insert the dipstick in the pipe and bring the plug to bear

without screwing it down

.

• Remove the dipstick and check the level. The mark left on the

gauge should not be below the ADD mark

for the PKCTM model

and below the lower limit of the gauge

for PHCT-PHCS mo-

dels

. Top up the oil level if it does not reach the FULL mark

for the

PKCTM model

or the upper limit of the gauge

for PHCT-PHCS

models.

Then top up with fuel to avoid having to add petrol during work
when the engine is hot.

Always

fi

ll in the fuel tank outdoors, and do not smoke during

the operation.
Never leave the engine in a closed room in which carbon
monoxide, a dangerous substance, could build up.

The oil gauge has to be fully screwed when the engine is
running. Never remove the petrol cap or add petrol while the
engine is running or when it is hot.

Do not change the original settings of the engine, do never
increase the engine rate. In the event of adjustment, contact
your specialist approved by ETESIA.

• Before starting the engine, make sure that the blade is properly installed

and tightened.

STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE AND
THE CUTTING BLADE

• Do not start the engine when the cutting blade is in contact with long,

uncut grass as this would cause difficulties when starting.

• Start the mower on a clear area. Never tilt it to start or when the blade

is rotating.

• Always keep feet away from the cutting blade. However if,

especially in the absence of a cleared area, the lawnmower has
to be inclined to start the engine and the cutting blade, press the
handlebar to lift the front part, without tilting more than necessary.

PKCTM

Your lawnmower has a disengageable blade system. This safety
arrangement enables to drive the machine without blades rotation,
when cut is not required.

• Open the fuel tap (see picture 5).
• Stand on the right of the handlebar, behind the mower.
• Place the throttle lever on position [

] (see picture 6).

• Slowly pull the starter unit handle until you feel the compression.
• Return to

fi

rst position before pulling vigorously to start the engine.

Hold on and follow the starter handle back to

fi

 rst position.

• When the engine has started, put the throttle lever on [MAX] position

(see picture 6).

• Push the blade clutch lever hock towards front (see 1 picture 7) and

fold the blade clutch lever on the handlebar (see 2 picture 7). The
blade start.

• To stop : release the blade clutch lever ; the blade is then on stop and

braked.

PHCT - PHCS

• Open the fuel tap (see picture 5a).
• Stand on the right of the handlebar, behind the mower.
• Apply the safety lever against the handle and keep it in this position

(see 1 picture 8).

• Slowly pull the starter unit handle (see 2 picture 8) until you feel the

compression.

• Return to

fi

rst position before pulling vigorously to start the engine.

Hold on and follow the starter handle back to

fi

 rst position.

STARTING A ENGINE WHICH HAS BEEN RUN-

NING ALREADY (PKCTM)

Do not use the choke to restart an engine which has just been
running (hot engine).

STOPPING THE ENGINE

•

For PHCT-PHCS models

, release the safety lever; the engine turns

off at the same time as the blade.

•

For PKCTM model

, pull the throttle lever gently to [STOP] position

(see picture 6).

• Close the petrol tap.

Do not obstruct the carburettor to stop the engine.

MOWING

Wear strong shoes and trousers. Remove all objects such
as stones, wood, iron, string, bones, plastic, etc... from the
lawn.
Never put your hand or foot under the mower while the en-
gine is running.

Mow preferably when the grass is dry. If the grass is very
long or wet, cut it twice : firstly at maximum cutting height,
and then at the final height.

When you are mowing on slopes, you must be particularly
careful and exercise a great deal of caution when changing
direction. You should not mow on slopes that are too steep.
When mowing slopes proceed as shown in the diagram (see
picture 11).
