USB setup & optimization
When using a Windows computer:
Your computer should automatically recognize the ESSENCE and you are ready to listen. Make sure the USB
input is selected and the system is on Speaker mode (blue LED).
When using a Mac computer:
Go to System Preferences > click Sound > click Output > select Feniks Essence from the devices list and you
are ready to listen.
For the best sound quality, we recommed setting the volume of your computer and the volume of your media
player to 100%, and instead use the volume wheel of the ESSENCE to control volume. This will ensure the most
bit-perfect playback.
File quality
We don’t recommend music files with a sample rate below 320kbps as the sound quality is greatly degraded, with
reduced detail and an overall softened sound. When using online streaming services, choose one which offers
at least 320kbps quality. Often, there will be a large quality difference between a free and premium version of the
same service, something to take into consideration when deciding whether to upgrade. At the time of printing, the
highest quality music streaming service is the lossless Hi-Fi option from TIDAL®.
For the best quality, we recommend 24-bit files.
On Windows computers, we recommend setting your media player to WASAPI output, if available (called
“Windows Audio Session” in iTunes and “Exclusive Mode” in TIDAL).
