OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
I
Contact with underground gas or
electric utilities can cause serious injury or
death.
1. With the operator in the
operator’s position, the
seat belt fastened, and the seat bar lowered (if
so equipped), start the engine.
To avoid injury or death, keep
people
away
from
the
loader
and
attachment when the engine is running.
2. Raise the attachment so that the auger is
slightly off of the ground, and rotate the coupler
forward until auger is completely suspended by
the yoke and not resting on the cradle.
3. Position the auger bit over the intended hole
location, and lower the auger until the bit tip
penetrates the ground a
bout 2”.
When transporting the auger,
drive slowly and take care to keep the auger
bit from contacting the ground while
moving. Ground contact while moving may
cause the machine to become unstable or
the operator to be thrown from the machine,
and will cause damage to the bit and
attachment.
4. With the engine rpm at an
idle
, activate the
auxiliary hydraulics to start the bit rotating in the
clockwise “digging” direction.
5. Using an appropriate engine speed, slowly
lower the loader arms until the desired depth is
reached. Let the bit do the digging, do not use
excessive down pressure to force the bit into
the ground. Excessive down pressure will
cause the hole to be drilled crooked and the
motor to stall.
6. When drilling very deep holes, lift the auger bit
out of the hole about every 24” to shake the
loose dirt off of the bit. Then continue drilling
until the desired depth is reached.
7. Under certain circumstances, the auger may
screw itself into the ground and become stuck.
If this happens, reverse the auger rotation to let
the bit back itself out of the hole and slowly
raise the auger.
IMPORTANT:
Never try to pull the auger up if
it becomes lodged under rocks, roots, or other
obstructions. This can damage the auger drive
and bit.
