For
Assembly Instructions for Models with a Removeable Seat Insert
(U3L,
U6L and ZF), proceed to page 5
1. Make sure all components are clean and free of any debris.
2. If the bolts and bolt holes were cleaned with chemicals, lubricating the
bolts is recommended to prevent the threads galling together.
3. Lay Reference Cap (1) upside down with every other bolt (6) in place.
Lock washers (7) are not required.
4. Carefully place O-ring (4) or gasket inside groove of Reference Cap (1).
For HT models, we recommend adding a light lubrication of petroleum
jelly to keep HT Gaskets from moving.
5. Inspect diaphragm (3) for any damage; replace if there is any question
about the condition. Some diaphragm types have a particular side which
must face the control orifices. If so, this will be noted in the packaging of
the spare diaphragm.
6. Lay diaphragm (3) down, centered onto Reference Cap (1), aligning bolt
holes with bolts.
7. Where applicable, insert O-ring or gasket into groove on body (2). For
8-bolt designs, if O-ring rests on inner groove wall, slight stretching of
O-ring to rest on the outer wall is recommended. Legacy units may not
have a body O-ring groove.
Again, lubrication of gaskets is recommended
for HT models.
8. Invert Body (2) onto diaphragm (3), aligning bolts (6).
9. Lift up reference cap (1) to meet body (2) and hold assembly together
while inverting to upright position.
10. Finger tighten all bolts (6).
11. Add remaining bolts (6) and washers (7, if using) and finger tighten.
12. Tighten all bolts using a torque wrench at the recommended setting
and tightening in a star pattern as shown in Figure B.
Recommended torque wrench settings:

The following patterns are sample bolt torque patterns for several bolt configurations. For bolt patterns not shown use a similar pattern and method. Any work
requiring a specified bolt torque should only be done by trained and competent employees.
Note: Position of starting bolt is not a defined point but rather the suggested pattern.

Sample Torque Pattern: Apply torque to starting bolt at one corner
and then apply torque to the opposite bolt. Torque bolt adjacent
to starting bolt and then the final bolt opposite.
