5. Once the blue LED glows persistently, gently pull the AMC module handles
outwards to disconnect the module from the AMC connectors. Continue to gently
slide the module outwards along the guide rails.

2.8 Configuring and Setting Up the Software
After the ATCA-F120 has been installed into a shelf and powered up, it starts to execute the U-
Boot firmware. For details about U-Boot and how it can be configured, refer to
Chapter 5, U-
Boot Firmware, on page 101 .
Eventually, U-Boot will boot an operating system. Typically this operating system will be a Basic
Blade Services (BBS) distribution from Emerson. BBS is basically a Linux distribution with some
hardware-specific add-ons. It consist of the following parts:

A carrier-grade operating system.
z
Several custom hardware management functions for the unique hardware of the blade.
z
A set of management routines for Linux and all hardware interfaces. Management access
includes support for SNMP and a local console interface based on a standard Linux
command shell.
For detailed information about the BBS that is available for the ATCA-F120, refer to the Basic
Blade Services Software on ATCA-F120 Programmer’s Reference . This manual also contains
information about standard configurations of the ATCA-F120, such as preconfigured VLANs
etc.
Poor Shelf Cooling and EMC Compliance Violation
An empty AMC bay may result in poor shelf cooling and strong EMC radiation and thus lead
to EMC compliance violation.
Therefore, always cover empty or unused AMC bays with a filler panel.
