USING YOUR APPLIANCE
Using your appliance:
1. Place the slow cooker on a flat, dry, heat
resistant surface.
2. Position the removable crock pot in the
base of the slow cooker.
3. Place your prepared ingredients into the
crock pot.
4. Put the glass lid on to the base of the
slow cooker, ensuring it is centred for best
results.
5. With the temperature dial turned to the
OFF position, plug the slow cooker into the
power outlet.
6. Select the desired temperature setting by
turning the temperature control dial to the
required setting: LOW, HIGH or AUTO.
7. When cooking is completed, turn the
temperature control dial to the OFF
position. Switch your slow cooker off at the
power outlet.
8. Carefully remove the crockery pot from the
slow cooker base.
9. Allow the slow cooker enough time to cool
completely before cleaning and storing
away.
Note: Always use oven mitts when removing the
crock pot from the slow cooker. Do not place
the heated crock pot on any surfaces affected
by heat. Take extra care when moving a crock
pot containing hot liquids.
Temperature control settings:
There are three temperature settings to choose
from: LOW, HIGH and AUTO.
The HIGH and LOW settings both stabilize at the
same temperature – the differences lies in the
time it takes them to reach the simmer point.
Once the food has reached the simmer point,
the total time it takes to cook is dependent on
the cut and weight of the meat/ingredients, and
how long it takes to reach the point of maximum
flavour.
Most dishes can be cooked on any setting.
LOW
The LOW heat setting gently simmers food for
an extended period of time without overcooking
or burning. No stirring is required when using this
setting. Ideal for vegetable dishes and reheating.
Note:
When using the LOW setting to cook
meat dishes, the meat should be browned first.
HIGH
The HIGH heat setting is ideal for use when
cooking dried beans and pulses. The HIGH
setting cooks food in half the time required for
the LOW heat setting. As food will boil when
cooked on the HIGH heat setting, it may be
necessary to add extra liquid, depending on
the recipe and the amount of time in which it
is cooked. Occasional stirring of stews and
casseroles will improve the flavour distribution.
Monitor food more regularly when cooking on
the HIGH setting.
AUTO
Ideal for cooking frozen food, the AUTO setting
cooks on high until the food defrosts and then
switches to low and maintains a constant
cooking temperature. Foods cooked on AUTO
will be ready to serve after 8-10 hours.
Tips:
It’s recommended to use the HIGH setting
when you need to cook a tender cut of meat
quickly. Use the LOW setting for tougher cuts –
cooking them for longer gives them more time
for the meat to grow tender.
