CONNECTING
eMOTUS5OD accepts high or low impedance. In this regard, on the rear panel, there is a
5-position switch for selecting your work mode. The first 4 positions allow for the
system to operate in high impedance, and the fifth, in low impedance.
(*)
The 4
positions on the power selector for a 100V line will make it possible to set the maximum
power with which each unit will operate. So, in areas where a low sound level is needed,
the lower positions will be used (3.75 to 7.5W), whereas in areas where a higher level is
required, the upper positions (15 or 30W) will be used.
Note:
In the event of using the loudspeaker in installations at 70V, the power ratings for
the 100V position will be reduced to half of those indicated on the connector terminals.
In the case of 50V installations, they will be reduced to a quarter.
The fifth position corresponds to operating in low impedance (8
) and a maximum
power of 40 WRMS. In the event of adopting this set up, the limitations of the amplifier
must be taken into account by connecting several loudspeakers to the output,
particularly if the impedance of the unit falls below 4
. Also, it is important to ensure
that the connection cable joining the amplifier outputs and the loudspeakers are good
quality, and as short as possible. This becomes especially important when the distances
to cover are considerable and the impedance of the loudspeakers is low.
(*)
The speaker distribution system on a 100V/70V line historically arises from the
technical need to mix loudspeakers with different impedances and/or power ratings on
the same line or amplifier channel, all without the need to be concerned about the total
impedance of the resulting unit. In addition to that, this solution makes it possible, with
minimum losses of power, to use long stretches of cable and a slightly shorter section
than that normally used in a low impedance installation.
CAUTION:
eMOTUS5OD is delivered by default with the switch in the 100V/30W
position.
If the system is accidentally connected to an amplifier with a low
impedance output, no damage will be done to the loudspeaker, but it will
perform well below its capacity. In the event of accidentally connecting the
loudspeaker to a 100V network with the switch in the 8
position, it will be
seriously damaged.
