Installing an XFP Transceiver
AS9216 supports 10GBASE-SR/LR/ER XFP-compatible transceivers.
To install an XFP transceiver:
W
ARNING
: The device uses lasers to transmit signals over
fiber optic cable. The lasers are compliant with the
requirements of a Class 1 Laser Product and are inherently
eye safe in normal operation. However, you should never
look directly at a transmit port when it is powered on.
1.
Insert the transceiver with the optical connector facing outward and the
socket connector facing down.
2.
Remove the socket’s protective rubber cover.
3.
Slide the transceiver into the socket until it clicks into place.
N
OTE
: When the port is not connected to a cable, cover
the port with the rubber cover to protect its optics.
4.
Verify that the cable plugs are clean. Dirty cable plugs on fiber cables
impair the quality of the light transmitted through the cable and lead to
degraded performance on the port.
To clean the cable plugs, wipe them gently with a clean tissue or cotton ball
moistened with ethanol.
5.
Connect one end of the cable to the LC port on the device and the other end
to the LC port of the other device.
6.
Verify that the port's LED turns green indicating that the link is up.
Ethernet Cables
When connecting an RJ-45/RJ-48 port to an end station, workstation, or server,
use a standard RJ-45/RJ-48 pin-out cable.
When connecting to network devices such as switches or hubs, use a crossover
cable.
