Mechanical Seal
Replacement Procedures

The mechanical seals in the pump you have purchased are of the cartridge type. They can be replaced

without pump disassembly.

Warning

For  disassembly  and  inspections,  close  the  suction  and
discharge  valves,  drain  the  casing  drain  valve,  and  ensure
that  the  pump  pressure  is  not  abnormal  or  negative.  The
pump  may  undergo  abnormal  rotation  while  the  work  is
incomplete, resulting in damage to the casing.

Make sure to turn the power OFF during pump disassembly or
assembly.  There  is  a  danger  of  the  pump  starting  suddenly
through automatic operation, etc.

Caution

Never  disassemble  the  motor.  When  disassembly  is
necessary, contact EBARA.

1. Disassembly

For disassembly, refer to the construction in

9

. and follow the procedure below.

(1)  Turn the power OFF.

(2)  Remove the cover on the motor terminal box, and remove the external wiring.

Note

Drain the liquid completely in the discharge pipe, suction pipe and the pump
interior.  To  drain  the  liquid  in  the  pump,  remove  the  drain  plug  (212-1)  for
the lower casing (6).

(3)  Remove the cross-recessed head machine screws (a total of 4 on both sides, 130-2) holding

the coupling guard (245), and remove the coupling guard.

(4)  Loosen the hexagon socket set screws (total of 3 on both sides, 130-1) located on the side of

the sleeve retainer (111-4) of the cartridge mechanical seal (111).

Note

Do  not  completely  remove  the  hexagon  socket  set  screws  (130-1).  The
cartridge mechanical seal (111) will be disassembled.

(5)  Remove the hexagon socket head bolts (total of 4, 120-6) holding the coupling (140), and

remove the coupling.

Note

To  ease  removal,  insert  a  slotted  screwdriver  in  the  gap  between  the
couplings  (140).  When  a  single  coupling  has  been  removed,  lift  the  shaft
(31) slightly using the pin (131-1), and then remove the remaining coupling.

(6)  Remove the pin (131-1) from the shaft (31).

(7)  Remove the hexagon bolt (120-13) securing the motor (800) and partially separate the motor

and the motor bracket. (4.0 kW or less types only)

(8)  Remove the motor (800) from the pump. (4.0 kW or less models only)

Note

The motor (800) should be removed using a hoist or other safe measures.

(9)  Remove the hexagon socket head bolts (a total of 4 bolts, 120-3) securing the mechanism

cover (111-3).
