Operation
Drive Mode
•
Automatically selects the start gear. The selected start gear will vary
depending on several vehicle inputs like load, grade, and axle/trans-
mission ratio. This start gear can be changed by using the up/down
buttons.
Important:
Any start gear up to the max start gear can be manually selected,
regardless of actual GCW or operating conditions. Manual selection of a start
gear that is too high for the vehicle conditions can cause damage to the drive-
train.
•
If the start gear is changed using the up/down buttons, it will remain
as the default until the vehicle is powered down or the selection is
changed with the buttons again.
•
Automatically performs all upshifts and downshifts in all gears.
•
A shift can be advanced by pressing the up/down buttons when the
transmission is near the shift point.
Important:
If the driver requests an upshift, the transmission will attempt that
shift regardless of the operating conditions. If the transmission misses the
shift, it will attempt to engage whatever gear it can to keep the vehicle moving
in the intended direction. If the driver requests a downshift, the transmission
will complete the downshift as long as it will not over speed the engine rpm. If
the transmission misses the downshift, it will attempt to recover into whatever
gear it can to keep the vehicle moving in the intended direction.
Note:
Manual upshifts need to be selected when the engine RPM is near 2100
RPM and manual downshifts need to be selected when the engine RPM
is near 1400 RPM.
Important:
Prior to ascending a steep grade the driver should reduce default
start gear by one or ensure full throttle is applied for the duration of the grade
so the vehicle maintains the proper engine and vehicle speed during the entire
grade. Driver can button down by using the down arrow on the shift lever.
Note:
*If the driver attempts to select a non-neutral mode without depressing
the service brakes the transmission will not shift into gear and the driver
will have to return to Neutral and depress the brakes before selecting the
desired mode again.
