Sonix 350-d Technical Manual
During the Sense Test with an Eol 1 Device fi tted, the
same 21 kHz tone is sent over the 100 V line, however
it is not expected back. Instead, the 350-d will wait for
the Eol 1 to place a high resistance link to Earth on one
leg of the 100 V line. This Earth fault is interpreted as a
confi rmation that Sense Test has passed and a missing
Earth fault is a failure. Genuine continuous Earth faults
are still detected and reported although line faults cannot
be assessed while a genuine Earth fault is present.

Figure 18. Failed Sense Test with Eol 1 unit.
The amplifi er is allowed ~8 seconds to detect the Earth
Fault, otherwise it will consider Sense Test as failed and
raise a Line Fault.
5.3.2.2 Sense Test disable
Disabling sense test in the 350-d confi guration doesn’t
stop the testing, rather it ignores the result and will
not generate a line fault. See the SAS manual for more
details.
5.3.2.3 Restricted Sense Test and audio breakthrough
Although the sense test built into the Sonix 350-d
has been carefully designed to be in-audible, some
speakers do generate audible pops, clicks and buzzes.
If these speakers are located in quiet areas, such as
accommodation or offi ce spaces, then the regular sense
test cadence can be disturbing. The 350-d confi guration
option, Restricted Sense Test, will limit the interval of a
Sense Test to every 8 hours for this amplifi er, regardless
of the 2Mx Sense Test Interval setting (see SAS Product
Manual for details). This option only limits 2Mx initiated
sense tests, manually initiated tests from the amplifi er
front panel will be actioned.
The 8 hours timeout is reset on a fault reset. The next
Sense test will be performed as and when requested
before next timeout begins.
